Much Ado About Diapers

We've all been there. That excat moment when you realize, "Oh no, the diaper leaked!" This moment becomes especially devastating when you happen to be out and about when it takes place. Wouldn't it be fantastic if this just didn't happen? Well, unfortunatly, I can't help with preventing it to not happen at all. But what I can do is offer some insight that I have gained on various diaper types that I have tried in these last 5 months.

Pampers Swaddlers

These are probably my favorite of all the diapers I have tried. I know that Pampers is under alot of fire right now, with parents complaining that Pampers needs to be recalled because their children have experienced chemical burns, but I believe those are only from the Dry Max Pampers (correct me if I'm wrong please! :) ). I have never had an issue with these and they are incredibly soft.
Pros:
Very soft for diapers; they really are true to their "Blankie-soft" claim.
Absorbant; I didn't really ever have issues with leaking with these.
Good fit; for my son at least, he has stayed pretty much in the 90th percentile with weight and height, if that helps give you an idea of his size.

Cons:
Pricey; at least to me, these are on the pricer end of diapers.

Final Thoughts:
I really do like these diapers and I keep an eye out on them to see if they go on sale. At my local Wal-Mart when they are on Rollback, they are about the same or sometimes even a little less than the Wal-Mart brand, at which point I buy them and am very happy with them, until I need to buy diapers again and have to revert to the less expensive ones ;)

Huggies Pure and Natural

To be honest, these are my least favorite of any diaper I have tried so far. Maybe I just had a bad experience, but the package I got was terrible. The diapers leaked more than any other brand I've tried so far and on top of that, they seem to leave alot of that diaper residue that is just not pleasant. You know the stuff I'm talking about, that yucky teeny tiny bead looking things that when you have a very, very full diaper likes to get all over everything and be a general pain to get rid of? Now, I'm not one to leave a dirty diaper on my son, the only exception being when we are sleeping and he doesn't wake up to let me know he is dirty, and even then I change him when we get up. These diapers leaked and got full for me before he even hardly wet them.
Pros:
Cute Diapers; they have a very cute Winnie the Poo design on the front with a little tree on the bum, which is just adorable.
The umbilical cord cutout spot; at least on the Newborn size, there is a spot that dips down lower than the rest of the diaper on the front to make room so that it doesn't agitate the newly trimmed umbilical cord.

Cons:
Not Absorbant; they seem to fill up very rapidly.
Stiff; they are not soft at all to me, they almost feel like cardboard.
Pricey; these are the priciest diapers in my area, and in this case, to me, you don't get what you pay for.

Final Thoughts
A nice feature in the umbilical cord area, but for me, these just aren't worth the price or hassle.

Luv's

These are my mom's favorite diaper, she says that she couldn't use anything else on me, eveything else gave me a rash, so now she just uses these on my sister. I like these diapers, they get the job done with few leaks and just generally are pretty good diapers. I'd probably buy these more often if they went on sale more, but that's just how I am.
Pros:
Absorbant; I rarely got leaks with these.
Fairly soft; these are pretty average on the softness scale. Softer than Huggies Pure and Natural, but not as soft as Pampers Swaddlers.
Smell nice, Not a huge deal, but they smell slightly like baby powder.

Cons:
Pricer than some brands; though these are less expensive than than both Huggies and Pampers, they are more expensive than store brands.

Final Thoughts
I like these diapers, and if I weren't so money concious, I would buy them more. The smell of them is nice, but it also worries me a bit about extra chemicals on my baby's skin.

Up&Up Diapers

Up&UP is Target's brand, of diapers as well as other things. I'm big on store brands, really, I'm convinced that there is really very few reasons to buy name brand, unless you are couponing well enough that the item you are buying is less than the equalivent store brand. Diapers are one thing that I pretty much always buy the store brand in, only switching to the name brand if it is on sale, making it less than the store brand. Unfortunately for me, there isn't a Target too close to where I live, so I mostly go with the Wal-Mart brand. The Up&Up Diapers are fantastic, they seem to hold up well, and I never had leaks with them.
Pros:
Absorbant; these really hold up to the job, even overnight.
Really adorable; I got comments on these when I took my son to the doctor's in them. Unlike other diapers where the design is only on the front, these are all over.
Fairly soft; like Luv's, these weren't as soft as Pampers, but softer than Huggies.

Cons:
Slight trouble fastening them; there is only a pretty small area where these can be fastened, so making sure you are on it is, at first, odd. Once you get the hang of it, it isn't too bad.
I think they only come in a blue and green design; this would only be a con if you have a little girl and don't want to put her in a blue and green diaper.

Final Thoughts
I really wish I had access to these more often, they would be my go-to diaper. They are fairly priced and generally hold up well.

Parent's Choice Diapers
Photobucket
Parent's Choice, Wal-Mart's brand of baby products, has been pretty good to me. Their diapers are slightly annoying until you get the hang of them, as you have to fasten them just right to keep them on. They are pretty much average on every scale in my book.
Pros:
Well priced; these are the least expensive diapers I can find, and they actually hold up for me pretty well.
Absorbant; these stand up to the overnight test well for me, only on one or two instances have I found that my son leaked overnight.
Fairly soft; same with Luv's and Up&Up.

Cons:
Hard to fasten; at least at first, these are really annoying to fasten, as you have to be sure you get them just right to keep them on.

Final Thoughts
For the price, these aren't bad at all. Once you get over that little roadblock of time where you aren't quite positive how to make them work, they do pretty well and are very affordable.

So, there you have it. I hope that this helps some of you learn a little bit about the various types of diapers out there! :)
